Searching for the "Big Truth"

Below is a close-up of my last nude figure from Adv Figure Painting.. it's too tight, has no edge hierarchy or color harmony and the paint is thin.. one more week on it and we'll see where I get to!!

Most of these gestures are from Glenn Orbik's heads and figures classes I am now taking on tuesdays.. that Big Truth thing is something George Bridgman talked a lot about with his students I am told.. I have very little handle on the gesture side of things but will do my loomis, bridgman and fixler ( and orbik) practice in the mean time.. there is hope.. ..

This is Gregory - from clothed figure painting w/Zhao Ming Wu. I think I'm finally feeling a bit more comfortable in his class ( in awe of the guy mostly so I'm a spaz-like wingnut in there).. He was really pleased w/this painting so.. I am over at least a small moon.. 16 x 20 canvas.. about 7 total hours I guess.. didn't finish the one hand..






these are a little out there but we started doing "extreme color" in quick studies and.. well I like these two ( the other one is not dry enough so still at school.. two great models - Becca below - 25 minutes and..

oh these first 3 paintings were done w/ little or no drawing - just massing shadows and forms.. not easy!
